The past couple weeks have been difficult for our family. Curtis' grandparents both passed away. It has been a whirlwind of emotion. Both heartbreaking but also a true love story. We will never forget the tender mercies of the Lord have been upon us. Grandma Joyce passed a couple of Sunday's ago and within days cancer was discovered throughout most all of Grandpa's body. One week and a few days and Grandpa followed in his sweethearts footsteps. How amazing it has been to be able to understand that this is not the end. That they are probably up in paradise taking a nice long walk together. Selfishly we struggle with the wait we must endure until we can join them, but for now we find joy and comfort in this knowledge. Grandma Joyce and and Grandpa Floyd have been nothing but kind to me and have always had open arms towards me.

Its funny how the plan works. Grandpa had a tragic accident 2 years ago around this time where we almost lost him. He believes that Heavenly Father's plan for him was to take care of Joyce. They were so sweet and tender to each other. Grandpa miraculously recovered and has been there for Joyce. They have been a wonderful example to Curtis and I on how to lose yourself for someone you love. I am so grateful for the lessons they have taught me.

Joyce Mitchell Tanner 1938 ~ 2009 Joyce Mitchell Tanner passed away on November 15, 2009.Daughter of Conrad Bolton Mitchell and Margaret Arvilla Sadler Mitchell; born in Draper, Utah on October 21, 1938. Joyce graduated from Jordan High School in 1956. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities. Joyce has a strong testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ and had a great love for her country. She worked at the State Tax Commission for over 23 years where she met the love of her life, H. Floyd Tanner. Married to William Scott Brinkerhoff. They had four children: Kayleen Krahenbuhl (Jim), Mitchell Scott Brinkerhoff (Carin), Tracy Derby (Scott) and Conrad John Brinkerhoff (Rhonda) and later divorced. Married H. Floyd Tanner in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 11, 1977. Floyd brought to the marriage Marshall Tanner (Donna) and Julann Geesey (Howard), Jill Faragher and Jason Floyd Tanner. Her family, children and grandchildren were very important to her. She loved watching and collecting movies, traveling the world, but her passion was spending time in Grouse Creek at the ranch with her cows. Survived by siblings: Conrad Kay Mitchell (Janice), Paul Sadler Mitchell (Anna), Connie Mae Jensen (Clyde), 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and one grandchild. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Memorial Mortuary, 3115 East Bengal Blvd. (7800 South) Cottonwood Heights, Utah. Friends and family are invited to call on Thursday one hour prior to services. Interment will follow at Mountain View Memorial Cemetery.

HERBERT TANNER Herbert Floyd Tanner 1930 ~ 2009 Son of Herbert A. Tanner and Vera Mae Kimber Tanner, born in Grouse Creek, Utah on July 29, 1930. Floyd attended school in Grouse Creek until the 10th grade and went on to graduate from Box Elder High School. Graduated from LDS Business College. After high school Floyd worked on the ranch until called on an LDS mission where he served in Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin. Later drafted in the U.S. Army serving most of his time in Germany during the Korean War as a military policeman. He was an accountant, rancher, and on the Board of Director's at Mountain America Credit Union since 1960. Enjoyed spending time at his ranch in Grouse Creek. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held various callings. In 2008, he was honored as director of the year by the National Credit Union Association. Worked at the State Tax Commission for 27 and a half years. He was married to Ruby Learned on October 20, 1952 and had four children, Marshall Tanner (Donna), Julann Geesey (Howard), Jill Faragher and Kenneth Tanner, died as an infant. Ruby passed away on April 30, 1976. Married Joyce Mitchell on June 11, 1977 in the Salt Lake Temple. Joyce brought to the marriage Kayleen Krahenbuhl (Jim), Mitchell Scott Brinkerhoff (Carin), Tracy Derby (Scott), Conrad John Brinkerhoff (Rhonda) and Jason Floyd Tanner. They have 21 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Floyd's siblings include Marjorie, Audrey (deceased), Norma, Merle, Shirley (deceased), Darrell, Donald (deceased), Eileen, Allen (deceased), and Barbara. Also preceded in death by Joyce Tanner, parents and a grandchild. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Belview Ward, 6300 South 300 East, where friends and family can visit Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment: Mountain View Memorial Estates, 3115 East Bengal Blvd (7800 South).
